Catherine M. "Kitty" Southgate, 99, of 153 Shadowland Cove died Thursday evening at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in North Adams on Nov. 30, 1903, daughter of James and Margaret Quirk Mahoney, she attended the former Freeman School and the former St. Joseph's Grammar School. She moved to Cheshire in 1954. She was first employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. and then for several years by the former Wall-Streeter Shoe Co., both in North Adams. She retired in 1968. She was a longtime communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church. She leaves her husband, Howard C. Southgate; a stepdaughter, Joan Haskins; five stepgrandchildren and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Catherine M. "Kitty" Mahoney Southgate will be celebrated Monday at 1 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire by the Rev. David R. Raymond, pastor. Burial will take place in the spring in the family plot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for St. Mary of the Assumption Church Building Fund through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247. Other survivors include stepson-in-law, Kenneth Haskins; five stepgrandchildren, Nancy Levesque, Steven Haskins, Thomas Haskins, Colleen Bethoney and John Haskins, and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren. She also leaves several nieces and nephews, including Marcia Eddy of Clarksburg.
