Raffaele "Ralph" Comarato

Raffaele "Ralph" Comarato, 80, of Hillsdale Road, South Egremont, died Friday at home. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., on Jan. 29, 1922, son of Luigi and Anna Maria Addesso Comarato, he graduated from Clinton High School there. He moved to South Egremont in 1993. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the South Pacific. In 1947, Mr. Comarato and his brother, Salvatore, opened Comarato Brothers Butcher Shop in the Bronx, which they operated until 1986. He was a member of the St. Philip Neri Holy Name Society and enjoyed woodworking. Three days a week he visited Fairview Commons Nursing Home to help residents make crafts. One of his favorite projects was building miniature wooden chairs. He and his wife, the former Mary Carlini, were married July 3, 1949, at St. Philip Neri Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Ann Anselmi of South Egremont; a son, Louis Comarato of New York; two sisters, Yolanda Grappo of the Bronx and Rae Basciano of Yonkers, N.Y., and three grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Ralph Comarato died Jan. 3, 2002. He also leaves his son-in-law, Sebastian, and three grandchildren, Angela, Anthony and Joseph Anselmi. He was predeceased by a brother, Salvatore Comarato, and three sisters, Thomasina Comarato, Carmela Bottiglieri and Concetta Bartolotti. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 10 at St. Philip Neri Church in New York by the Rev. Bonnici. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx. The family will receive friends tomorrow, Jan. 6, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 at JOHN J. FOX FUNERAL HOME, 203 East 201 St., Bronx, N.Y.
