David Thomas Wyman

David Thomas Wyman, 81, of 42 Maple St. died Saturday evening at home after a three-year battle with lymphoma. Born in South Dorset, Vt., on Feb. 25, 1921, son of David J. and Helen Tilston Wyman, he was a 1939 graduate of North Bennington (Vt.) High School. He had been a resident of North Adams for 31 years. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1945. Mr. Wyman was employed by New England Telephone Co. as a lineman, retiring in 1986 as a foreman after 40 years of service. After his retirement, he covered the Lebanon Valley, N.Y., and Malta Stock car races for the North Adams Transcript and The Berkshire Eagle. He was a member of Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion and enjoyed organic gardening. He and his wife, the former Betty I. Leavitt, celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary July 15. They were married in St. Joseph's Rectory in Pittsfield. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Donald Wyman of Carlsbad, Calif., and Christopher Wyman of Pittsfield; four daughters, Barbara Andrews of Westfield, Nancy Wyman of Worthington, Katherine Davis of Jaffrey, N.H., and Eleanor Bliss of Savannah, Ga.; a brother, Hiram Wyman of East Greenbush, N.Y.; two sisters, Sister Marie Bernadette of Port Richey, Fla., and Elizabeth Pagano of Spring Hill, Fla.; 15 grandchildren, and three great-granddaughters. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for David T. Wyman will be held tomorrow, Jan. 7, at 1 at AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, North Adams. The Rev. Joseph H. DeCosta, pastor of First Baptist Church of North Adams, and the Rev. William Furey will officiate. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the David T. Wyman Memorial Fund through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247. He leaves his grandchildren, Jacqueline Lortsher Barcomb of Westfield; Johanna Lortsher Duncan of Oakland, Calif.; Trevor, Rachel, Nicole and Taylor Wyman, all of Carlsbad; Alanna Andrews of Enfield, Conn.; Alissa Darrah of Dallas; Bart and Holland Gage of Worthington; Kristin, Gregory and Mallory Wyman, all of Pittsfield, and Rhea and Coleman Davis, both of Jaffrey; and three great-granddaughters, Margaret, Madeline and Caroline Barcomb, all of Westfield.
