Carol Olson

Carol Olson, 56, of Shunpike Road died Wednesday at home, following a long battle with cancer. Born in Canaan, Conn., on April 28, 1946, daughter of Eleanor Hughes Griffiths and the late William Griffiths, she was a 1964 graduate of Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village, Conn. She had resided in Plainfield, Conn., from 1975 until returning to the Sheffield family homestead in 1994. She was employed by Travelers Insurance Co. as a computer specialist in Hartford, Conn., and Atlanta, Ga., for 37 years. While in Plainfield, Mrs. Olson was an active member of the First Bible Baptist Church. While in Sheffield, she was active in the First Baptist Church of Sheffield. She was a past president of the Sheffield Friendly Union and worked with the town elections. Besides her mother, of Sheffield, she leaves her husband, Carl Olson, whom she married May 11, 1974, in Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield, and three sisters, Susan Telensky and Jane Stanton, both of Sheffield, and Gail August of West Palm Beach, Fla. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Carol Griffiths Olson who united with Lord Jesus on Wednesday evening will be conducted on Monday, Jan. 13, at 10 at the Faith Baptist Church in Sheffield with the Rev. Morris Lark and the Rev. Thomas Benson. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Jan. 12, from 2 to 5 at the FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. Carol enjoyed life, loved her family and Jesus, and lived each day to the fullest. She also leaves two nieces, Krista Stanton of Nanuet, N.Y., and Sheri Dunham of Steven's Point, WI; two nephews, William Skarupa of Torrington, Conn., and Patrick Stanton VanSant of Great Barrington.
