Helen T. Egerton

Helen T. Egerton, 82, of South Main Street died Tuesday morning at home. Born March 18, 1920, in New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Harry and Etta Holder Titus, she and her family moved to Stamford, Conn., when she was 3. She graduated from the local high school in Stamford. When she lived in Connecticut, she worked as a secretary for Pitney Bowes Manufacturing Co. She and her family moved to Sheffield in 1968, where she was an active member of the Sheffield Grange and the Trinity United Methodist Church in Ashley Falls. She was a volunteer at the Bushnell-Sage Library in Sheffield. A homemaker, she enjoyed knitting, gardening and her animals. Her husband, Gavin Caldwell Egerton, whom she married in 1952 in Bedford, N.Y., died on Oct. 19, 2002. She leaves two sons, Gavin Russell Egerton of Rutland, Vt., and William Egerton of Sheffield; three daughters, Margaret Egerton Small of Delhi, N.Y., Joy Egerton Crawford of New Marlboro, and Anne Egerton Moulton of Sheffield; 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Helen T. Egerton will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at 2 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Ashley Falls, conducted by the Rev. Betty LeGeyt, pastor. Burial will follow in the Ashley Falls Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was a giving woman who was there for anyone. She also leaves her daughters-in-law, Donna and Vanessa; her sons-in-law, James Small, Jeff Crawford, and Dan Moulton; 10 grandchildren, Jay, Allison, Luke, Emilie, Dylan, Andrew, Melinda, Thomas, Mitchell and Pamela, and her great-granddaughter Mercedes. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Trinity United Methodist Church or HospiceCare of the Berkshires through FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
