Oscar K. Kipp

Oscar K. Kipp, 79, of 121 Gamwell Ave., died Wednesday afternoon at Hillcrest Commons where he had been a patient since Jan. 16. Born in Brainard, N.Y., on Oct. 17, 1923, son of William and Jeanette Williams Kipp, he lived most of his life in Pittsfield. He attended schools in East Nassau, N.Y., and Pittsfield. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army in the South Pacific, the Philippines and New Guinea. Kipp was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk in the Pittsfield post office for 28 years, retiring in 1985. Prior to that he was employed as a station agent for the Boston and Albany Railroad for 12 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pittsfield, American Legion Post 155 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9566, both of Dalton. He was a sports fan and railroad enthusiast. He is survived by his wife, the former Irene M. Kimmey, whom he married Sept. 21, 1946, at the First United Methodist Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Roger H. Kipp of Townsend; a daughter, Janet M. Belanger of Dalton, five grandsons and one great-grandson. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Oscar K. Kipp, who died Wednesday, Jan. 22, was predeceased by his three brothers and two sisters. He leaves many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, at 1 at DERY FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Dr. Roger A. Davis, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be today from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to First United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
