Domenico A. Grande, 85

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Domenico Alfonso Grande, 85, of 216 North St., died Tuesday evening, Jan. 1, 2008,  at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, following a brief illness.

Born in North Adams on Dec. 21, 1917, son of Giuseppe and Amalia R. Scerbo Grande, he moved to Amato, province of Catanzaro, Italy, as a child with his family and was educated in schools there. He returned to North Adams in 1936.

Mr. Grande was employed for many years by Arnold Print Works in Adams, retiring in 1982 from its successor, the former Adams Print Works. He first worked for the former Gale Shoe Co. and later for the former Wall-Streeter Shoe Co.

He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church and a member of Sons of Italy Lodge 704 and Elks Lodge 487.

He leaves his longtime companion, Anna Vivori Tremblay of North Adams; five sisters, Filomena Demo and Assunta Deane, both of North Adams, Elena Alcaro of Adams, Mafalda Musacchio of Greenfield and Marie Roy of Venice, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Theresa Alcaro Grande of North Adams,  and nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews.

Predeceased by a brother, Peter D. Grande, on June 8, 1999.

FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Grande will be Saturday, Feb. 1, at 10:15 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Eagle Street, North Adams, by the Rev. Daniel J. O'Hear, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Saturday, Feb. 1, from 9:15 until 10:15 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the St. Anthony's Church Centennial Fund through the funeral home.
