Josef Meisl

Josef Meisl, 75, of 77 West St., died yesterday in Enfield, Conn., at his daughter Nancy's home. Born in Gottschee, Austria, on Oct. 17, 1927, son of Josef and Maria Hutter Meisl, he attended schools in Austria, where he graduated from high school. He emigrated to New York City in 1952 and worked as a toolmaker for B&D in Canaan, Conn., retiring in 1987. He leaves his wife of 49 years, Helen Stefandel Meisl, whom he married in 1953 at St. Matthias Church in Ridgewood, N.Y. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Josef Meisl of Burlington and Stephen Meisl of Pittsfield; five daughters, Traudi Thomason of Philadelphia, Irene Concannon of La Grangeville, N.Y., Nancy Sullivan of Enfield, Conn., Kathy Meisl and Helen McDermott, both of Waltham; one brother, Robert Meisl of Lancaster, Pa.; two sisters, Erna Handler and Hedy Eppich, both of Ridgewood, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Josef Meisl also leaves his daughters-in-law, Brenda Meisl and Kellie Meisl; his sons-in-law, Robert Thomason, Michael Concannon and Chris Sullivan; four sisters-in-law, Anne Meisl, Julie Stefandi, Josephine Ahrens and Marie Muskolous; a brother-in-law, Hans Handler; 10 grandchildren, Josef, Stephanie, Brigit, Bobbi, Keith, Billy, Michelle, Hope, Benjamin and Libby, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Josef Meisl, who died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, will be Monday, Feb. 3, 2003 at 9 at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at our Lady of the Valley Church, Sheffield, with the Rev. John Lis, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Sandisfield Center Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003 from 2 to 5 at the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington.
