Joseph L. Devanney Jr.

Joseph L. Devanney Jr., 44, of 344 Mohawk Trail died Sunday at home. Born in Lowell on June 11, 1958, son of Joseph L. Devanney Sr. and Marcy Michaud Devanney, he moved to North Adams with his family in 1972. He graduated from Drury High School in 1978 and from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, with a bachelor's degree in history. Mr. Devanney was manager of the family business, the Eastern Summit Gift Shop. Previously, he had taught at several schools in the area. He was an assessor for the town of Florida for five years. He enjoyed watching and playing basketball, and played in the Sunday basketball program in Williamstown. Besides his parents, of Florida, he leaves a sister, Patricia McKenzie of Dunstable, and a brother, Michael D. Devanney of Amherst. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Joseph L. Devanney Jr. will take place Thursday, Feb. 6, at 10:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Calling hours will be tomorrow, Wednesday, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested for the charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Christina Devanney; a brother-in-law, Douglas McKenzie; two nieces, Krista and Katie McKenzie; and two nephews, Cameron and Casey Devanney, and several aunts, uncles and friends.
