Eda Mary Crochiere

Eda Mary Crochiere, 94, of 85 Washington St. died Monday afternoon at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, on April 19, 1908, daughter of Carmello and Maria Penino Scaffo, she attended Pittsfield schools. Mrs. Crochiere was employed for 20 years as a design draftsman in the power transformer department at GE in Pittsfield. She retired in 1972. She was instrumental in starting the school hot lunch program and was a founding member of the Becket Scholarship Committee, now the Becket Scholarship Foundation. She also was a longtime member of the Friends of the Becket Athenaeum and was active in Republican politics throughout the county. Her husband, Stanley A. Crochiere, whom she married Oct. 9, 1932, died Nov. 4, 1993. She leaves a daughter, Barbara A. Roberts of Becket; a sister, Mary Brett of Dalton, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A daughter, Catherine T. Crochiere, died in May 1972. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Eda Mary Crochiere, who died Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, leaves her son-in-law, Louis J. Roberts; her two grandsons, George Edward Roberts III and Alfred S. Roberts; and her two great-grandchildren, Louis J. Roberts and Cassidy J. Roberts. The funeral will be Friday, Feb. 14, at 9:30 from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at St. Charles' Church by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will be in the spring in North Becket Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow, Feb. 12, from 3 to 6 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Catherine T. Crochiere Memorial Scholarship Fund at Franklin Pierce College or to St. Charles' Church Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home, 890 East Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
