Joseph L. Bombardier

Joseph L. Bombardier, 85, of 31 Lanesboro Road died yesterday morning at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Adams on Dec. 14, 1917, son of Edward and Mary Lamarre Bombardier, he attended schools there. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in England and North Africa, where he was an ambulance driver. Mr. Bombardier was employed in the manufacture of Lexan at GE Plastics in Pittsfield for 25 years, retiring in 1972. Following his retirement, he invested in rental properties and owned and operated the Adams Minibike Shop. He also sold hardware, second-hand furniture and antiques. He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, a member of the Cheshire Senior Citizens Club and a charter member of the Adams Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed traveling to casinos in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, N.J., and going to auctions, tag sales, out to dinner and to the movies. He leaves his wife, the former Sophie Stodulski, whom he married April 25, 1947, in Miami; a son, Richard L. Bombardier of Cheshire, and a granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Joseph L. Bombardier, who died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, was predeceased by his seven brothers and one sister. He leaves his granddaughter, Nicole A. Bombardier, a pharmacy major at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Worcester. The funeral will be Friday, Feb. 14, at 9:15 from DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church by the Rev. David A. Raymond, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pittsfield. Calling hours will be tomorrow, Feb. 12, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association, both in care of the funeral home, 121 North State Road, Cheshire, MA 01225.
