Helen N.Pelkey

Helen N.Pelkey,89,formerly of 83 Curtis Ave., Dalton, Ma,., died Sunday, Dec.3,2000, at Hallmark Nursing Center in Glens Falls where she had resided for the past 2 1/2 years. Born on April 12,1911, in Salem, NY she was the daughter of the late James and Anna Boland Noon. She was educated in Pittsfield, MA schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1929, and graduated fromBishop Memorial School for Nursing in 1932. Prior to living in Dalton, she lived in Cheshire for four years, and in New Jersey for 37 years. She served as an Army nurse in World War II. She was employed as a registered nurse for the Pittsfield Visiting Nurse Association from 1932 until 1945, when she entered the Navy. While living in Woodbridge, N.J., she was employed by the Woodbridge Division of Health as a Public Health Nurse for 14 years, retiring in 1974. Helen was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assum ption Church in Cheshire and a former member of the American Legion in Cheshire. She was the widow of Walter J. callahan, who died in 1944, and the widow of Edward L. Pelkey, who died in 1960. She was also predeceased by three brothers, William, Francis, and James Noon, and two sisters, Anne and Mary Noon. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6 at St. Mary's Church in Cheshire with the Rev. Thomas Begley, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetary in Pittsfield, MA.
