Lorraine DiLorenzo Townes, 72

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Lorraine Mary DiLorenzo Townes, 72, of 74 Meadow St. died Sunday morning, Sept. 28, 2003, surrounded by her family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in North Adams on March 7, 1931, daughter of Everett Thomas and of Rose M. Gelinas Thomas Walczak, she moved to Troy, N.Y., at a young age and attended schools there. Mrs. Townes was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. for many years, retiring in 1993. She was a communicant of St. Francis' Church and enjoyed playing bingo and gardening. She was a devoted mother and homemaker. Mrs. Townes also cared for her pet cat, Sabrina. Her first husband, Albert DiLorenzo, is deceased. She leaves two daughters, Diane M. Snyder of Bennington, Vt., and Mary A. Goodermote of North Adams, with whom she made her home; a son, James C. Townes of North Adams, with whom she also resided; a brother, Norman Thomas of North Adams; a stepsister, Linda Bissaillon of North Adams; six grandchildren, Mark, Eric and Matthew Snyder, Michael and Katie Goodermote, and Sarah Townes; four great-grandchildren, Kayla, Alyssa, Paige and Grace Snyder, and nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Townes will be Tuesday at 12:15 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 1 at St. Francis' Church. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today, Sept. 29, from 4 to 6. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home.
