Joseph A. Vivori, 80

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Joseph Arthur Vivori, 80, of 43 Harding Ave. died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at North Adams Regional Hospital, where he had been admitted on Dec. 2. Born in North Adams on July 2, 1923, son of Giuseppe and Emma Regaioli Vivori, he was educated in North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School in 1943. A veteran of World War II, he entered the Army on July 15, 1943. He served as a private with Company A of the 1137th Service Command Unit as a military policeman until his honorable discharge on Dec. 5, 1944. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. Following his military service, he attended North Adams State College, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, earning his bachelor of science degree with the class of 1948. He also completed his master's degree at North Adams State College in 1964 and earned enough postgraduate credits for his doctorate. Mr. Vivori was with the U.S. Postal Service in the North Adams post office for more than 34 years, retiring in 1979. In his younger years, he was employed by the Boston & Maine Railroad on a part-time basis and by the former Sprague Electric Co. for a short time. He was a life member of Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion, the National Rifle Association, National Association of Federal Employees and the Disabled American Veterans. He leaves his wife, the former Eleanor Mary Thibodeau, whom he married June 26, 1950, in Colrain; a daughter, Carol Vivori of Clarksburg; two sons, Air Force Col. Joseph Herbert Vivori at Langley Air Force Base, Va., and Philip James Vivori of Clarksburg; two sisters, Ann Tremblay of North Adams and Olga Gassett of South Windsor, Conn.; a brother, Gillio Vivori of North Adams, and three grandchildren, Colleen Vivori of Washington, D.C., and Jacob Vivori and Philip Bowen of Clarksburg. His brother Lenin Vivori died in infancy. FUNERAL NOTICE — Private memorial services for Mr. Vivori will take place in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 10 West Shaft Road Terrace (Mohawk Trail), North Adams. There will be no calling hours and the omission of flowers is requested. Any donations in his memory are suggested for Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses through the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapel, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements.
