Harold E. Pinney

Harold E. Pinney, 79, of 392 Summit Road died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Bosworth, Mo., on Aug. 15, 1921, son of Horace and Iva Polson Pinney, he was a graduate of Bosworth High School. He also attended Central College and then the University of Missouri and graduated with a degree in business administration. In 1942, he enlisted in the Army. He later attended Stanford University, the University of San Francisco and Oregon State University, graduating with a degree in electrical engineering. He moved to Texas, where he was employed by NASA and contributed to the Apollo program, specifically the lunar module. He moved to Pittsfield in 1947 and was employed by General Electric Co. in the power transformer division for 13 years, then the ordnance division in the load ratio section. He retired in 1982 after 35 years of service. While at GE he received eight patents regarding load ratio. A member of the Richmond Congregational Church, Mr. Pinney was also a trustee and treasurer there for many years. He and his wife, Mary, were members of the Quadrille Square Dance Club for 16 years. He also enjoyed gardening. He leaves his wife, the former Mary Treharne, whom he married Aug. 26, 1944; a daughter, Mary Lee Godfroy of Richmond; a son, Robert M. Pinney of Lenox; three sisters, Doris Allen of Columbia, Mo., Ruth Horst of Friendswood, Texas, and Marianne Pinney of St. Louis, Mo., and two grandchildren. The funeral will be Saturday, May 5, at 11 a.m. at Richmond Congregational Church with the Rev. Irene M. Jones, pastor, officiating. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Richmond Congregational Church Memorial Fund. The WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield is in charge of arrangements.
