Lydia Decoteau

Lydia A. Decoteau-Boynton, 42, of 97 North Summer St. died Saturday evening at home. Born in Pittsfield on July 1, 1958, daughter of Richard B. Boynton of Orlando, Fla., and the late Jean Horn Boynton, she attended Adams schools and graduated from Hoosac Valley High School in 1976. She also graduated from Berkshire Community College with an associate's degree in human services in 1978, and from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts with a bachelor's degree in sociology in 1980. At the time of her death, Mrs. Decoteau-Boynton was employed by J.A.L. Management Properties Inc. as the leasing/marketing administrator and social services coordinator. She was a certified occupancy specialist through the National Center for Housing Management, a certified resident service coordinator with the Massachusetts Association of Resident Service Coordinators in Housing Inc., and a certified reverse mortgage housing counselor with the Hous-ing and Urban Development AARP agencies. Mrs. Decoteau-Boynton was also a certified regional SHINE coordinator and counselor through the Executive Office of Elder Affairs. She most recently worked as a career specialist with BerkshireWorks and had previously worked for Berkshire Housing Services Inc. for several years. She also worked for the Berkshire County Regional Housing Authority for several years, the Association of Councils on Aging for nine years, and the town of Adams Council on Aging for five years. She was the program director for both the Adams and North Adams community development corporations. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Adams and a past member of the board of directors and a corporate member of the Homeowner Options for Massachusetts Elders program in Boston. Besides her father, she leaves two sons, Nicolas A. Decoteau and Jared B. Decoteau, both of Adams, and two brothers, Richard B. Boynton III of Cheshire and Keith H. Boynton of Adams. Services will take place Thursday, May 10, at 10 a.m. from the TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, Adams, with the Rev. Vernon P. Decoteau officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Street Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home, 6 Summer St., Adams, MA 01220.
