Charlotte Williams

Charlotte R. Williams, 73, of 104 Beach Road, a former member of the Washington Democratic Committee, died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. She had been a patient at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility for three years. Born in Washington on July 4, 1927, daughter of Alexander J. and Minnie Colburn Radwich, she graduated from the former Dalton High School in 1946. She served in the Women's Army Corps for 14 months during the Korean War. Mrs. Williams was employed as a driver for several businesses, including the Ding Dong cart during the summer, a school bus in Dalton for 12 years, and then as a school bus driver for the city of Pittsfield for 10 years. She retired in 1992. She attended Morningside Baptist Church in Pittsfield. She was a notary public, a member of the Council on Aging and sexton of the town cemeteries for many years. She was also in charge of the town transfer station for 13 years. Mrs. Williams trained thoroughbred race horses that ran at New England racetracks and fairs. In 1966, when a plane crashed on her property, she was instrumental in saving the pilot's life. Her first husband, Homer J. Morgan, died in 1970. Her second husband, George F. Williams, whom she married April 16, 1972, died May 4, 1974. She leaves two daughters, Rocelia I. Bagnera of Pittsfield and Darlene M. Otto of Washington; a sister, Edith Boice of Richmond; a brother, Norman Radwich of Richmond, and two grandchildren. Services will be Thursday at 10 at BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton, with the Rev. Linda Shaw officiating. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the funeral home. Following cremation, burial will be in Stonehouse Cemetery, Washington. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the National Parkinson's Disease in care of the funeral home. She was predeceased by brothers Irving, Ralph, Arnold and Elmer Radwich. All are invited to a memorial celebration at the family farm in Washington on Thursday afternoon.
