Leo P. Godbout, 91
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Leo Paul Godbout, 91, of 157 North St. died Friday, April 29, 2005, at the home of his daughter, Anne Marie Williams of 51 Murray Ave.
Born in North Adams on Jan. 25, 1914, son of Adelard and Phelanise Bedard Godbout, he attended the former Notre Dame School.
An Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, he served as a corporal with the 1010th AAF Base Unit and received several campaign medals.
Mr. Godbout was employed by GE for 12 years, retiring in 1979. Before that, he was employed by the former Hoosac Cotton Mills for 38 years.
He was a communicant of St. Francis' Church and a former member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He was a longtime member of the Retired Men's Bowling League, bowling twice a week, and enjoyed fishing. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.
His wife, the former Roma Bernadette LeMire, whom he married July 5, 1947, died Dec. 5, 1987.
Besides his daughter and her husband, Kenneth, he leaves two other daughters, Mary Ellen Eliasen of North Adams and Janice Marie Powers of Adams; two sisters, Florence Bombardier of North Adams and Theresa DeMasi and her husband, Joseph, of Bennington, Vt.; a sister-in-law, Lillian Godbout; five grandchildren, Terri-Lynn Frank, Christopher James Kurek and Craig Williams, Kenneth L. Williams Jr. and Todd A. Powers, and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Honore Godbout, on Sept. 10, 1989, and Ernest J. Godbout Sr., on June 12, 1994; and by two sisters, Rose Dumas, on Sept. 13, 1981, and Marguerite Nault, on Sept. 17, 1998.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Mr. Godbout will be Monday, May 2, 2005, at 10:15 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St. North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams. Burial with full military honors will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 3 to 7. Memorial donations are suggested for VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire, St. Francis' Church or St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire, all through the funeral home.
