Charles R. Parsons

Charles R. Parsons, 78, of 5 Maple St., Housatonic, died yesterday at home. Born in Great Barrington on April 12, 1927, son of William and Helen Rebstock Parsons, he was a 1945 graduate of the former Searles High School. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II. Mr. Parsons worked at the former Rising Paper Co. in the maintenance department for more than 45 years, retiring in 1989. After retirement, he helped his son Charles M. "Mike" Parsons perform soil percolation at Kelley, Granger, Parsons and Associates. He was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church and a NASCAR fan. His wife, the former Mary E. Butler, died Feb. 10, 1984. Besides his son, of Great Barrington, he leaves two other sons, Robert D. Parsons of Lanesborough and Stephen P. Parsons of Richmond; a daughter, Sheila Harms of Worcester; a brother, William Parsons of Great Barrington, and 14 grandchildren. Another son, Richard Parsons, died in 1999. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Charles R. Parsons, who died Monday, June 20, 2005, will be celebrated Thursday, June 23, at 10 at Corpus Christi Church in Housatonic by the Rev. Anthony Jutt, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy in Charles' memory be made to the Corpus Christi Building Fund or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, both in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230, which is charge of arrangements.
