Loydann Pierce

Loydann Pierce, 87, of 80 Willow Cove Road died Friday at home. Born in Pittsfield on April 22, 1918, daughter of Clair W. "Clay" and E. Christine Shankland Perry, she was a 1936 graduate of Pittsfield High School and attended American International College and the former North Adams State College. She moved to Cheshire 55 years ago. A real estate agent, Mrs. Pierce owned and operated Ken's Realty in Pittsfield from the 1960s to the 1980s. She worked at the Veterans' Outreach Center in Pittsfield and was a private antiques dealer and collector for many years. She also was a public notary. She was a member and deaconess of Cheshire Baptist Church and served on its finance and flower committees. She was also a longtime member of the Berkshire Gem and Mineral Club and a member of the Berkshire Humane Society. In her younger years, she was a champion swimmer, earning many ribbons for diving. She enjoyed gardening, and collecting minerals, coins and antiques. She and her husband, Myles E. Pierce, were married in Pittsfield on June 20, 1941. He died Dec. 23, 1965. She leaves a daughter, Lindalee A. Adelt of Adams; two sons, Gene E. Pierce of Cheshire and Bruce E. Pierce of North Adams; a brother, Paul A. Perry of Concord; 10 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Loydann P. Pierce, 87, who died at home on June 24, 2005, will be conducted tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Cheshire Baptist Church by the Rev. Linda Shaw, pastor. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours will be today from 5 to 8 at DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME. Mrs. Pierce left a legacy of love in family and friends, including her two daughters-in-law, Margaret and Suzette Pierce, and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Bemis Perry and Virginia Wade Perry. She also leaves numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister and two brothers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, North State Road, Cheshire, MA 01225.
