William L. Carpenter

William L. Carpenter, 44, of 164 North St. died yesterday at home. Born in North Adams on April 5, 1961, son of Joanne M. DeRose Carpenter of North Adams and the late Raymond G. Carpenter, he attended schools in Adams and was a 1979 graduate of McCann Technical High School in North Adams. At the time of his death, Mr. Carpenter had been employed by Gem Environmental Services for about three years. Before that, he worked as a mechanic for Aladco in Adams for many years. He was a member of the Mountain Club in Adams. He enjoyed building motorcycles and cars. He raced cars at Lebanon Valley Speedway in New Lebanon, N.Y., and enjoyed watching motor sports, including NASCAR and Orange County Choppers. Besides his mother, with whom he made his home, he leaves two daughters, Jennifer Carpenter and Amanda Carpenter both of Adams; his paternal grandfather, Ronald L. Carpenter of Adams; three brothers, Raymond A. Carpenter of Rock Hill, S.C., and Scott D. Carpenter and Timothy J. Carpenter, both of Adams, and a grandson. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Graveside committal services for William Lamb "Sweet William" Carpenter will be conducted Thursday, July 7, 2005, at 1:30 p.m. at the family lot in Cheshire Cemetery by Deacon Robert Moulton, permanent deacon with the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Stanislaus Kostka. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Eileen Barrett Oncology Center at NARH or to an education fund for his grandson in care of FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include his daughter Jennifer's companion, Tom Rand, of Adams; a grandson, Joshua Rand; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
