Helen Hope Oakes Fournier

Helen Hope Oakes Fournier, 88, of 13A Veazie St. died yesterday morning at North Adams Commons. Born in Shepards, Va., on Dec. 14, 1916, daughter of Shirley P. and Annie Woote Dowdy, she attended schools there. She moved to North Adams in 1947. Mrs. Fournier was employed by the former Apothecary Hall. She later worked at the lunch counter of the former J.J. Newberry's and was a housekeeper for several area families. She attended First United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening and playing bingo. Her former husbands, George Raymond Oakes and Leo Fournier, are deceased. She leaves three daughters, Helen "Fran" Oakes Perry of North Adams, Elaine Oakes Hewitt of Clarksburg and Philomene Fournier Rivard of North Adams; four sons, Charles Oakes and Chester Oakes, both of North Adams, Raymond Oakes of Adams and George Oakes of Kissimmee, Fla.; a sister, Elsie Brooks of Saginaw, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchilren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Helen Oakes Fournier will be celebrated Thursday, July 14, 2005, at 10 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS West Chapels, 521 West Main St. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 to 7. Flowers may be sent or donations to VNA & Hospice of North Berkshire or North Adams Ambulance Service, both in care of the funeral home. Seven brothers and a sister are deceased.
