V. Carmello Stracuzzi

V. Carmello F. Stracuzzi, 82, of 111 Stearns Ave. died yesterday at home. Born in Taormina, province of Messina, Sicily, on Oct. 3, 1918, son of Rosario and Carmella Stracuzzi Stracuzzi, he emigrated to the United States at the age of 9 and attended local schools. Mr. Stracuzzi was employed by Triplex Machine Co. for 10 years and by GE for 33 years, retiring from the plastics department in 1983. He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. He was also a member of the Greater Springfield and Berkshire County Musicians Association Local 171 AFM. Mr. Stracuzzi played the accordion and guitar, and formed two bands, the Berkshire Mountaineers and the Continental Trio. His music was broadcast on radio station WBRK. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and dancing. He and his wife, the former Rose M. Frangipane, would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary July 27. They were married at the Mount Carmel Church. Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Carmella A. Underhill, Angela M. Underhill and RoseMarie Stracuzzi, all of Pittsfield; a brother, Peter Stracuzzi of Pittsfield; two sisters, Angelina Rufo of Richmond and Antoinette Giarolo of Lee; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Predeceased by two sons, Rosario Stracuzzi and Michael J. Stracuzzi; two daughters, Beverly Stracuzzi and Jennie Stracuzzi, and a brother, George F. Stracuzzi. The funeral will be Monday, June 4, at 9 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church celebrated by the Rev. John H. Ford, CSS. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday, June 3, from 4 to 7.
