Mary S. Maruk

Mary S. Maruk, 77, of 29 Potter Mountain Road died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on May 14, 1928, daughter of Stanley and Anna Mikasz Mezzack, she was a 1946 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She moved to Lanesborough 50 years ago. A homemaker, Mrs. Maruk was employed at one time as a secretary at GE in the lab and in ordnance. She was a communicant of St. Charles' Church and a former member of the Polish Falcons and the Embroiders Guild of America. She was also a longtime volunteer at the former Hillcrest Hospital. She enjoyed crocheting, needlework, ceramics, gardening, canning, camping and going to the ocean in Rhode Island and on Cape Cod. She and her husband, John Maruk, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 2. They were married in St. Charles' Church. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Christine A. Maruk of Rutland and Stephanie E. Dastoli of Lanesborough; two sons, John M. "Jack" Maruk of Lanesborough and Michael S. Maruk of Manlius, N.Y.; a brother, Henry Mezzack of Bowie, Md.; a sister, Jane Vittone of Pittsfield, and five grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Mary S. Maruk, 77, of Lanesborough, who died July 21, 2005, will be Monday at 10:45 from DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:30 at St. Charles' Church celebrated by the Rev. Peter S. Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. Mary also leaves her five beloved grandchildren, Sophia and Nicholas Dastoli, Delia O'Connor, and Michael and Preston Maruk. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Mezzack of Pittsfield. Donations in memory of Mrs. Maruk may be made to St. Charles' Church or to the charity of one's choice in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
