Rose M. Cosgriff

Rose M. Cosgriff, 87, of the Village at Laurel Lake, formerly of 241 Salisbury Road in Sheffield, died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Sheffield on April 28, 1918, daughter of John and Mary Polastri Batacchi, she attended local schools there and was a 1936 graduate of the former Sheffield High School. She and her husband, the late David W. Cosgriff, owned and operated Midvale Farm, which was a noted dairy farm of pure bred Holstein and Fresian cows. Mrs. Cosgriff was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield, and enjoyed cooking. She and her husband were married on Aug. 23, 1941, at Our Lady of the Valley Church. Mr. Cosgriff died on Dec. 9, 1985. She leaves a son, James M. Cosgriff of the state of Colorado; a daughter, Sally H.C. Spadaro of Saranac Lake, N.Y.; two brothers, Paul and Arthur Batacchi, both of Sheffield; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Rose M. Cosgriff, who died Saturday, July 30, 2005, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 6, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Church with the Rev. John S. Lis, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Our Lady of the Valley Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, family requests that expressions of sympathy in Rose's memory be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230, who is in charge of arrangements. Rose enjoyed her home and family. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Christine Cosgriff; a son-in-law, Joseph Spadaro; the families of her brothers Paul and Arthur Batacchi; three grandsons, Michael David Spadaro, and William and Bryan Cosgriff; two great-grandsons, Michael David II and Jake Robert Spadaro; her nephew, James Larkin; her cousin, Henry Polastri, and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband David, Rose was predeceased by two sisters, Lucia Larkin and Elsie Bull.
