Marceline V. "Polly" Gilman

Marceline V. "Polly" Gilman, 75, of Navajo Drive died Tuesday morning at home after a brief illness. Born in Williamstown on March 16, 1930, daughter of Allen and Hazel Katut Lowry, she was a graduate of the former Williamstown High School. She moved to North Adams 19 years ago from Williamstown. Mrs. Gilman was a bus driver for 41 years. She was employed by John Tietgens and, more recently, by Dufour Bus Co. She enjoyed traveling, spending time in Maine and at Foxwoods Casino, crocheting and doing ceramics. Her husband, Arthur Gilman, died in 1987. She leaves two daughters, Hopeanne Gilman and Verda Smith Senecal, both of North Adams; two grandsons, and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Marceline V. "Polly" Gilman will be Friday, Aug. 5, at 10 at Sherman-Burbank Chapel at Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. Interment will follow in the family lot in Eastlawn. Friends may call today, Aug. 4, from 7 to 9 at GEORGE M. HOPKINS FUNERAL HOME, 61-67 Spring St., Williamstown. Memorials in her honor may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of Northern Berkshire Inc. in care of the funeral home. One of the things that she enjoyed most was watching her grandson, Zachary Gilman, play for the North Adams Cowboys football team. She also leaves her longtime friends, Roger and Sandra Goddard, and Donna and Tony Czarnecki, all of North Adams, and several cousins, and many of the neighborhood children who referred to her as "Nanny."
