Mildred M. Uyrus

Mildred M. Uyrus, 96, of 24 Water St. died Thursday at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro after a long illness. Born in Adams on Feb. 14, 1909, daughter of David Tosh Sr. and Margaret Nimons Tosh, she was a 1926 graduate of the former Adams High School and earned a bachelor of arts degree in education from the former North Adams Normal School, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, in 1929. A teacher, Mrs. Uyrus was employed by Lanesborough School, retiring in 1973. She also taught in Shaftsbury, Vt., and in the Adams School System. Her husband, Theodore Uyrus, whom she married Feb. 24, 1941, in Pownal, Vt., died Jan. 20, 2002. She leaves a son, David T. Uyrus of Wrentham, and two granddaughters. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Mildred M. Uyrus will be conducted Thursday, Aug. 11, at 1 at MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 4 Liberty St., by the Rev. Donald E. Gray, pastor of First Baptist Church of Adams. Burial will follow in the family plot in Bellevue Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations to the Uyrus Scholarship Fund through the Hoosac Valley High School Scholarship Committee, Route 116, Cheshire, MA 01225, or through the funeral home, which is in charge of arrangements. She leaves her daughter-in-law, Heidi, and her granddaughters, Haley and Gwendolyn Uyrus.
