Margaret Ann Rector

Margaret Ann Rector, 83, of 1 Lincoln Lane died Saturday at home after a long illness. Born in Findley, Ohio, on Oct. 31, 1921, daughter of Louis and Grace Welsch Bacon, she was educated in Fort Wayne, Ind., and was a graduate of Juilliard School of Music in New York. She moved to Tyringham in 1973 and to Stockbridge in 1974. A pianist, Mrs. Rector played the baby grand at the Red Lion Inn from 1973 until April of this year. She had a regular audience of fans who came to hear her unique blend of classical and popular music. Patrons made numerous requests for songs, which she happily filled and played without using sheet music. She taught piano lessons privately in schools in New York and in the Berkshires and played for many of the Southern Berkshires' social and political fetes and galas. Her husband, Knight J. Rector, died in 1973. She leaves a daughter, Susan Rector Barkin of Stockbridge; a stepdaughter, Robin Lydenberg of Brooklyn, N.Y., and three grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Memorial Service for Margaret A. Rector will be held at a later date at a time to be announced. Following cremation, burial will be Aug. 28, 2005, at 11 at Stockbridge Town Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy of Margaret A. "Peg" Rector may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230, which is handling arrangements. She leaves three grandchildren, Lily and Eliza Barkin of Stockbridge and Annica Lydenberg of Brooklyn, N.Y.
