Pauline "Penny" Browne

Pauline "Penny" Browne, 88, of Sheffield died Saturday, Aug. 13, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Janice Browne, in Weeki Wachee, Fla. Born in Liverpool, England, on April 29, 1917, daughter of Isabelle and John Pendleton, she was educated there. She emigrated to New York City in 1928. She graduated from Pratt Institute with a degree in fine arts. Mrs. Browne was an art teacher in public school systems. She had lived in Lakeville, Ohio, Long Beach, N.Y., and Huntington, N.Y. Over seven years, she and her family spent weekends building their home in Sheffield, and permanently moved there in 1980. She was active in the Old Parish Church, the Sheffield Art League and The Sheffield Historical Society, where she served as a docent at the Dan Raymond House for many years. She and her husband enjoyed traveling extensively around the world. She also enjoyed literature and poetry. Besides her son, she leaves her husband of 65 years, William Browne; a daughter, Wendy Fisher of Chardon, Ohio, a granddaughter and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by another son, Terrence Browne. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Memorial Service for Pauline "Penny" Browne will be Saturday, Aug. 20, at Old Parish Church, Sheffield, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Old Parish Church Reconstruction Fund. She also leaves her daughters-in-law, Janice Browne and Connie Browne of West Hartford, Conn.; granddaughter, Jennifer Urbanski and her husband, Steve, of West Hartford, and great-grandchildren, Sarah, Michael, John, Denisa, Elizabeth and Emilia. She had a special love for books, which contained the precious words of poetry and literature that she held dear. Those who knew Penny well understand her long and bountiful life was well lived and the unique imprint she left will long be remembered.
