Francis J. "Cy" Sigoski

Francis J. "Cy" Sigoski, 84, of 23 Gilmore Ave. died Thursday at Fairview Hospital. Born in Great Barrington on Feb. 17, 1921, son of Frank and Julia Lemanowicz Sigoski, he attended schools there. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Sigoski was employed by the Great Barrington Department of Public Works at the wastewater treatment plant, retiring in 1986. He had also worked for the former Nuclear Components plant. He was also a special police officer, serving both the Great Barrington and Stockbridge Police departments. He played semi-pro baseball in the area for four years, and had been scouted by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also played on the semi-pro basketball team for the former Home Gas Co. in Housatonic. An active member of the James A. Modolo VFW Post 8348, he served as a past president, and was also a member of the American Legion Post 127. He and his wife, the former Louise Lesniak, were married May 10, 1947, at All Saints Church in Housatonic. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Nancy A. Banach of Housatonic; a son, John F. Sigoski of Pittsfield, four grandchildren and two great-grandsons. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Francis J. "Cy" Sigoski will be Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005, at 1 at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. Shaun O'Connor, pastor of St. Peter's Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery. The family will receive friends today, Friday, Aug. 19, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy in memory of "Cy" may be made to either the Hope Fire Company in Great Barrington or the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Service in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. He leaves his son-in-law, Alex; a daughter-in-law, Joannie; two grandsons, Matthew A. Banach of Housatonic and Jeremy Sigoski and his wife, Jessica, of Ohio; two granddaughters, Alicia Withers and her husband, Jim, of New Marlborough and Jamie Lynn Sigoski of Pittsfield, and two great-grandsons, Aaron and Zachary Withers of New Marlborough. He was predeceased by two brothers, Fred and Joseph Sigoski, and his sisters, Sophie Sweyd and Helen Guidi.
