Albert Joseph Volpi

Albert Joseph Volpi, 60, of 245 Houghton St. died Sunday afternoon at the emergency room of North Adams Regional Hospital, where he was taken after being stricken earlier at home. Born in Adams on Dec. 5, 1944, son of the late Albert J. Volpi Sr. and Gertrude Burdick Volpi, he attended schools in Adams. Mr. Volpi was employed by Greylock Electric Co. before starting his own business, Volpi Trucking. At the time of his death, he was employed by Clarksburg Construction Co., where he had worked since June 3, 1996. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 310, the North Adams Country Club and the Waubeeka Golf Club in Williamstown, and a former member of Stamford Valley Golf Course. He also bowled at the Mount Greylock Bowl and Valley Park Lanes for many years. He and his wife, the former Bonnie J. Tatro Bird, were married March 8, 1989, in Stamford Vt. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Adam J. Volpi of Shaftsbury, Vt.; Todd M. Volpi of Ionia, Mich., and Jason A. Volpi of Bennington, Vt.; a daughter, Ashley J. Volpi of North Adams, at home; two stepsons, Aaron F. Bird of Pownal, Vt., and Ryan F. Bird of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a sister, Laurie A. Wojtkowski of Bartlett, Ill., and seven grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Albert J. "Abu" "Bucky" "Al" Volpi will be Thursday at 8:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, CENTRAL CHAPELS, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, with a funeral Mass at 9 at St. Francis of Assisi Church celebrated by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor of the Catholic Churches of North Adams. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 to 7. Donations to the Ashley Volpi Education Fund in care of the funeral home.
