Allen Lester Cooper

Allen Lester Cooper, 83, of 2434 East Main St., Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Lanesborough and Dalton, died yesterday at home. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, on Aug. 2, 1922, son of Francis J.A. and LouieSharp Cooper, he attended schools in Lanesborough and Pittsfield. He was a member of the Pittsfield High School class of 1940. Mr. Cooper served as an armed guard in the Merchant Marines during World War II. A machinist, he worked for Glenn L. Martin Aircraft in Baltimore and for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, Calif. He was a member of Unity Lodge of Masons in Dalton. He leaves three sons, David Cooper of Hinsdale, Gary Cooper of Dalton and Richard D. Cooper of Cheshire; two brothers, Robert E. Cooper of Pittsfield and Ogunquit, Maine, and Richard K. Cooper of Dalton; a sister, Doreen M. Butler of Pittsfield, and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Allen G. Cooper, in 2000. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Allen Lester Cooper died Aug. 29, 2005, in Mesa, Ariz. Cremation will be held in Arizona. A memorial service will be held in Lanesborough at a later date. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Lanesborough. Memorial donations may be made to Unity Lodge of Masons in Dalton. Mr. Cooper was predeceased by three brothers, Stanley, Francis and Arthur Cooper, and by a sister, Eva G. Albert.
