Carolyn H. Houghtaling

Carolyn H. Houghtaling, 89, died yesterday morning at her home at 45 Birch St. Born in PIttsfield on Aug. 9, 1916, she was the daughter of Allen and Verda Burdick Wood. She attended local schools and graduated from Lenox High School in 1934. She moved to Lee in 1936, where she was a communicant of St. Mary's Church. She enjoyed playing bingo. Her husband, Louis E. Houghtaling, whom she married on Feb. 25, 1936, died Sept. 16, 1990. She leaves a son, Alan F. Houghtaling of Becket; a daughter, Carol Rauch of Lee; three brothers, Kenneth Wood of Pittsfield, Lawrence Wood of Westfield and James Wood of Amarillo, Texas; five sisters, Helen Schiffman of Pittsfield, Shirley Desmond of Southwick, Charlotte Zehe of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Vera Haseltine and Beverly Bates, both of St. Augustine, Fla.; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Her sons, Robert and L. Edward Houghtaling, died in 1946 and 1986, respectively. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mrs. Houghtaling is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Linda M. Houghtaling, along with many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Allen Wood and Roger Wood, and sisters, Alma Wood and Barbara Daley. All services will be private at the convenience of the family.
