Harold E. "Red" Affhauser

Harold E. "Red" Affhauser, 81, of 552 Reservoir Road died Wednesday evening at the Great Barrington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, where he had resided since 1993. Born in North Adams on June 2, 1924, son of Ernest and Pansy Randall Affhauser, he attended schools there. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the United States Army 487th Medical Corps in the European Theater. Mr. Affhauser last worked as a machine operator for the former Cornish Wire Co. in Williamstown. Earlier, he had worked at the former Green Mountain Race Track in Pownal, Vt., and the Boston & Maine Railroad. Mr. Affhauser was a member of the First Baptist Church. He had a great love for horses. He leaves his former wife, the former Irene Farrin of North Adams; two sons, Mark Affhauser of North Adams and Wayne "Joe" Affhauser of Adams; a daughter, Kim Allard of North Adams; a sister, Gladys Affhauser of North Adams, and six grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Harold "Red" Affhauser will be Saturday, Sept. 3, at 11 in the First Baptist Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. Calling hours will be Saturday from 9 to 10:30 at the AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 46 N. Church St., North Adams. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of North Adams, or Blackinton Union Church, through the funeral home.
