Marilyn Shirley Gorman Alderman

Marilyn Shirley Gorman Alderman, 78, of 615 North Eagle St., formerly of 9 Meadow St., North Adams, died yesterday at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield of arteriosclerosis and kidney failure. Born in North Pownal, Vt., on Dec. 12, 1926, daughter of Victor and Eva Brothers Willette, she moved to North Adams at the age of 8 and was a 1945 graduate of the former St. Joseph High School. Mrs. Alderman was employed for 26 years by the Cornish Wire, General Cable and Carol Cable companies in Williamstown. She was a communicant of Notre Dame Church in North Adams, an active member of the Clarksburg Council on Aging and a volunteer driver for seniors who were housebound. She was a past member of the Bennington (Vt.) Club, and a member of the Northern Berkshire YMCA and the Clarksburg Senior Center, where she sang with the Golden Tones. Her first husband, James M. Gorman, whom she married April 24, 1946, died Aug. 16, 1972. Her husband, Francis Russell Alderman, whom she married March 17, 1978, died Dec. 16, 2003. She leaves a daughter, Kathleen Gillis of Framingham; two sons, Michael J. Gorman and James M. Gorman, both of Pownal, Vt.; a stepdaughter, Dorothy DiLorenzo of North Adams; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Marilyn Willette Gorman Alderman will be Saturday at 10:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME for FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the Clarksburg Senior Center through the funeral home. Survivors include five grandchildren, Kimberly Gavagan, Chelsey Gorman, and Drew, Amy and Troy Gillis; two great-grandchildren, Audrey and Sophia Gavagan; her stepdaughter and dear friend, Dorothy DiLorenzo; two step-grandchildren, Mary Patricia LeClair and Michael DiLorenzo, and two step-great-grandchildren, Christina and Michael DiLorenzo. She was predeceased by a step-great-grandchild, Jocelyn LeClair, and by two brothers and a sister, Gerald "Larky" Willette, Leland "Lee" Willette and Rita Jane Doherty.
