Sophie Lutynski

Sophie Lutynski, 83, of Silver Brook Road died Saturday evening at home. Born in New Britain, Conn., on Feb. 2, 1922, daughter of John and Alexandra Witanowska Silkowski, she graduated from high school there. Mrs. Lutynski was employed as a shipping and receiving manager at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, Conn., until retiring in the 1960s. In 1964, she moved to Sandisfield part time and made it her permanent home in 1972. Her husband, Zigmund Lutynski, whom she married Sept. 14, 1940, at Holy Cross Church in New Britain, died in 1997. She leaves a son, Michael Lutynski of Hong Kong; a daughter, Barbara Lutynski Pryce of New York City; a sister, Helen Slepski of New Britain; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Sophie Lutynski will be celebrated Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, at 10 at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield by the Rev. John Lis. Burial will follow in Sandisfield Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either HospiceCare in the Berkshires or the Visiting Nurse Association of the Berkshires through FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. She also leaves her daughter-in-law, Lorraine; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Wilcox Jacobson and Michael and Matthew Lutynski; three great-grandchildren, Marc and Hannah Lutynski and Lily Sophia Jacobson, along with several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Sophie was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Rizza and Lottie Tyszka; a brother, Edward Silkowski, and her grandson Philip Wilcox. As a result of her strength and indomitable spirit and despite many physical infirmities, Sophie was an inspiration to all who knew her.
