Ida H. Bayer

Ida H. Bayer, 97, of George Street died Sunday at home, following a short illness. Born in Schaki, Lithuania, on May 4, 1908, daughter of Gustav and Johanna Reil Winkler, she was a graduate of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran School in Brooklyn, N.Y. She also attended a trade school to become a seamstress. Mrs. Bayer enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting, and was an avid reader. She had been a member of the Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pittsfield since 2002 when she moved here with her daughter. While in Glendale, N.Y., she was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church from 1908 to 2002. Her husband, George Bayer, whom she married Oct. 19, 1935, died in 1993. She leaves two daughters, Margaret Hintz, with whom she lived, and Helen Kimpel, both of Pittsfield, and two granddaughters. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Ida H. Bayer will be Saturday at 11 in Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pittsfield, with the Rev. Dr. Peter Boehringer, pastor, officiating. There will be no calling hours. Survivors include two sons-in-law, Earl Hintz and Sigurd Kimpel, and two granddaughters, Kathy Stokes of New York City and Susan Kimpel of Pittsfield. Donations in her memory may be made to the Church Building Fund care of WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
