Edward Marcus

Edward Marcus, 67, of Pleasant Street, Manchester, formerly of Lee, died Sept. 6 at Massachusetts General Hospital. Born in Ashland on Dec. 18, 1937, son of Harry Marcus and Mary Kilham Marcus, he was a graduate of William Jewell College. He obtained both his master's of divinity and doctor of ministry degrees at Andover Newton Theological School, with additional education at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He studied two years at the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich. A clinical psychologist and retired diplomate with the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, Mr. Marcus had a private practice, while also serving as interim minister in a number of churches in the Northeast, including First Congregational Church in Lee. He brought a unique blend of psychology, spirituality and theology to both his practice and his ministry. He cared passionately about peace and justice, and worked vigorously to help those who were need of food, shelter, or community. He was a collector of antiques, sports memorabilia and other collectibles. An avid reader and a writer, he treasured the practice of silence and solitude. Among his greatest joys were his two daughters and four granddaughters. He leaves two daughters, Jennifer Marcus of Mill Valley, Calif., and Sarah Woodward of Greenlawn, N.Y., and four granddaughters. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The Rev. John Hughes will conduct a Service of Thanksgiving and Celebration of Edward Marcus' life at First Parish Church in Manchester on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Construct Inc., a homeless shelter program located in the Berkshires, at 41 Mahaiwe St., Great Barrington, MA 01230 or to a non-profit of choice. He also leaves four granddaughters, Eloise and Chloe Woodward, Jordan and Kacie Krasniewicz, and his soulfriend, Patricia Plummer. Lee, Moody and Russell Funeral Home in charge.
