Arnold P. Sossner

Arnold P. Sossner, 68, of Hurley, N.Y., Delray Beach, Fla., and New Marlborough died Friday at Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center. Born in Great Barrington on April 7, 1937, son of Lewis and Florence Fisher Sossner, he was a graduate of the former Searles High School and earned a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and, during the 1980s, a master's degree in computer programming from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Mr. Sossner was employed by IBM for more than 30 years. He began his career in 1959 as a pioneer in computing. He wrote manuals for main-frame computers that were integral to the company's success. He retired in 1993. He was a member of Temple Immanuel Congregation. He and his wife, the former Sandra Anne Levine, were married 46 years. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Stacy Lyn Sossner of Boca Raton, Fla.; two sons, Dr. Harold J. Sossner of Niskayuna, N.Y., and Edward M. Sossner of Delmar, N.Y.; two sisters, his twin, Andra Sossner Karp of Wakeworth, Fla., and Myrna Sossner of West Palm Beach, Fla., and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Arnold P. Sossner will be conducted tomorrow, Sept. 13, 2005, at 11 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, Great Barrington, by Rabbi Andrew Klein. Burial will follow in Ahavath Sholom Cemetery in Great Barrington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Marlborough Ambulance Squad or to the Southern Volunteer Ambulance Squad through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
