Gertrude Cecilia Harvey

Gertrude Cecilia Harvey, 91, formerly of Clarksburg and Lake Worth, Fla., died Saturday at Wingate in South Hadley after a short illness. Born in North Adams on April 16, 1914, daughter of Louis and Genevieve Healey Parisien, she graduated from the former Hotel Dieu Nursing School in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, in 1935. Following graduation, she moved to New York City, where she worked in a hospital and did private-duty nursing. She moved to Clarksburg in 1940, where she assisted with civil defense training and polio inoculations and was a consultant to grammar school nurses. Mrs. Harvey was an active member of St. Francis' Church and volunteered at the former St. Joseph's High School, both in North Adams. An accomplished golfer, she was a member of North Adams Country Club. Her husband, Arthur Harvey, whom she married in 1940, died July 2. She leaves four daughters, Windella H. Marion of South Hadley, Jo-Ann Harvey Austin of Jaffrey, N.H., Mary Jane Harvey of Adams and Charlotte M. Harvey of Longwood, Fla.; a son, Daniel A. Harvey of Providence, R.I.; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Gertrude Cecilia Harvey will be conducted today from BARRY J. FARRELL FUNERAL HOME, 2049 Northampton St., Holyoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Holyoke. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be today, Wednesday, from 10:15 to 12:15. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Survivors include two sons-in-law, Robert Austin and James Craft; her son's partner, the Rev. Alcide Barnaby, and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Development Fund in care of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Mont Marie, 34 Lower Westfield Road, Holyoke, MA 01040.
