Joseph Henry Lyons

Joseph Henry Lyons, 79, of 473 West Main St. died Monday evening at Albany Medical Center. Born in the Farnams section of Cheshire on Jan. 8, 1926, son of Paul and Lulu Curtis Lyons, he attended school in Cheshire. After his family moved to North Adams in 1940, he attended the former St. Joseph's Elementary School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Marine Corps until his honorable discharge as a Sergeant in 1947. He worked as a custodian for the North Adams School Department for 34 years until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He and his wife, the former Evelyn M. Blanchard, celebrated their 55th anniversary July 22. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Harold R. Jones of North Adams; a daughter, Debra Crews of Clarksburg; a brother, Edward Lyons of Cheshire; a sister, Elizabeth Serrano of North Adams; and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside funeral service for Joseph H. Lyons will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in Southview Cemetery. The Rev. Susan Stewart, pastor of First United Methodist Church, will officiate. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of North Adams through the AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 46 N. Church St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements.
