John Richard Bosma Jr.

John Richard Bosma Jr., 76, of 157 Bailey Road died Wednesday morning at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. He had resided on Bailey Road for 26 years. Born in Pittsfield on May 28, 1929, son of John R. Bosma Sr. and Bessie Buckley Bosma, he was a 1947 graduate of Pittsfield High School. A Navy veteran of the Korean War, he served aboard the USS Cony from Feb. 23, 1949, until Feb. 11, 1953. Mr. Bosma was employed by GE in the power transformer division, retiring as a foreman in 1989 after 42 years of service. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed farming, animals and gardening. He was an avid Red Sox and Celtics fan. He leaves his wife, the former Theo K. Zarvis, whom he married Feb. 26, 1956; four daughters, Doris Ann Bosma and Theophania K. Bosma, both of Lanesborough, Valerie Jean Bosma of Pittsfield and Tracy Lynn Paradis of Raymond, N.H.; five sisters, Alice King and Elaine Wilbur, both of Dalton, Irma Bosma and Emily Whitaker, both of Pittsfield, and June McGroary of Lanesborough, and three grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- John Richard Bosma Jr., who died Wednesday, Oct. 12, also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Jacob John Bosma Paradis, Christopher Paradis and Ryan Paradis; beloved son-in-law, Scott Paradis; three brothers-in-law, including Wayne Wilbur, who was also his best friend, and many nieces and nephews, and his wonderful, caring and supportive neighbors and friends. Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 17, at 11:30 at DERY FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. Robert Kyte, pastor of First Congregational Church of Dalton, officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to AA & MDSIF for the continued research of PNH, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
