J. Gordon Adams

J. Gordon Adams, 89, of Hendersonville, N.C., a former resident of West Stockbridge, died Friday at Elizabeth House in Hendersonville. Born in Pawtucket, R.I., on May 10, 1916, son of James P. and Mary Conlin Adams, he graduated from high school ther. He also attended Rhode Island School of Design, and Albany Business, Union and Siena colleges, all in New York. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the Mediterranean-North African theater. Mr. Adams was employed by GE for 38 years in various engineering positions in Pittsfield, and in Schenectady and Utica, N.Y. He was a member of First Congregational Church in Hendersonville and a longtime member of its choir, and a member of the Hendersonville Shrine Club and Kedron Lodge AF&AM. While in West Stockbridge, he was a 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Mason and past master of Wisdom Lodge AF&AM. He leaves his wife of 55 years, Olive M. Adams. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Memorial Service for J. Gordon Adams was held in Hendersonville. Memorials may be made to Four Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care, P.O. Box 2395, or to First Congregational Church, 1735 Fifth Avenue West, both in Hendersonville, NC 28793. He leaves two nieces, Wilma Pinter and husband, John, of Charlotte and Joan Schoff and husband, Clifford, of Allison Park, Pa.; two nephews, David Whitbeck and wife, Mary, of Inverness, Fla., and Paul Whitbeck of East Berne, N.Y.; nine great-nieces and -nephews and eight great-great-nieces and -nephews. The family extends a special thank-you for the loving care received from the special people at Four Seasons Hospice. Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors and Cremation Memorial Center was in charge of arrangements.
