Victor Franklin Lamb

Victor Franklin Lamb, 97, of 18 Cherry St. died Tuesday evening at Sweetbrook Care Center in Williamstown. Born in Somerville on May 1, 1908, son of William E. and Nellie Smith Lamb, he moved to North Adams with his family at the age of 2. He graduated in 1925 from Drury High School, and in 1927 from Wentworth Institute in Boston. Mr. Lamb founded, along with his brother, William E. Lamb, the Lamb Stationery store on Main Street. He later founded the Lamb Printing Co. in North Adams, which he operated for many years with his wife, Doris. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and its vestry. For his 33 years of service as treasurer of the church, he was presented with the Bishop's Award. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club, and a board member of the North Adams Salvation Army. As chairman of the retail division of the Northern Berkshire Chamber of Commerce, he was instrumental in the creation of the annual Fall Foliage Festival. He and his wife, the former Doris E. Whitehead, were married May 18, 1940. She died on July 3, 2005. He leaves four sons, William D. Lamb of Boxford, Robert E. Lamb of Black Mountain, N.C., Victor F. "Kip" Lamb of Williamstown and Steven G. Lamb of East Bridgewater; two daughters, Jean Valenti of Windham, N.H., and Wendy Fausett of Astoria, Ore.; 15 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Kenneth A. Lamb, who died May 6, 2005, and a daughter, Kristen Lamb, who died in April 1957. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services to celebrate the life of Victor F. Lamb will be held Friday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Edward King, rector, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Southview Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Capital Fund of St. John's Episcopal Church, or to VNA-Hospice of North Berkshire in care of FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements. He also leaves a nephew, former North Adams Mayor Richard Lamb of Williamstown. He was also predeceased by a brother, William E. Lamb.
