Joseph W. Budz Sr.

Joseph W. Budz Sr., 95, of 4 Maple St., formerly of Commonwealth Avenue, died Saturday at Great Barrington Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Housatonic on July 17, 1910, son of George and Anna Klimek Budz, he attended schools there. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in Germany, France and the European theater. Mr. Budz was employed as a meat cutter at the former First National grocery store, retiring in July 1975 after 39 years of service. Before joining the Army, he worked for his family's grocery store on Meadow Street in Housatonic. He was a communicant of St. Peter's Church and enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was a Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. His wife, the former Victoria A. Cresky, died June 27, 1987. They had been married 47 years. He leaves a son, Joseph W. Budz Jr. of Housatonic; a daughter, Marie B. Metivier of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Joseph W. Budz Sr., who died Saturday, Nov. 5, will be Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 9 at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Peter's Church celebrated by the Rev. Shaun O'Connor. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Nov. 8, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy in Joe's memory may be made to the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad or to Fairview Hospital, both in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. He leaves his daughter-in-law, Betty; son-in-law, Nick; six grandchildren, Kathy Williams, Chris Behan, Richard Metivier, Brenda Briggs, Barbara Watts and Julie Nardin, and eight great-grandchildren, Amanda and Phillip Williams, Allison Behan, Paul Jr., Jenna and Megan Nardin, and Ashley and Steven Larkin. He was predeceased by a sister, Nellie Nalty, and by four brothers, Andrew, Harry, Louis and Henry Budz.
