Alice Mae Wells

Alice Mae Wells, 83, of Rutland, Vt., died Monday afternoon at Eden Park Nursing Home in Rutland following a long illness. She was the mother of Patricia Beany of Pittsfield and Samuel Wells of Housatonic. Born in Bridgeport, Conn., on Jan. 11, 1922, daughter of Irving and Jenny Moran Nichols, she grew up in Fairfield, Conn., and graduated from Fairfield High School. Mrs. Wells relocated to the East Burke/St. Johnsbury area in the 1950s, where she helped run the family farm. After she moved to northwestern Massachusetts, she worked as a school bus driver for handicapped children. She moved to Rutland in 1992. She enjoyed genealogy, traveling and reading. Her husband, Maynard Wells, died in 1986. Besides her daughter, she leaves two other daughters, Linda Robinson and Marlene Oakes, both of Rutland; another son, John Wells of Castleton, Vt., 13 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Graveside Service for Mr. and Mrs. Wells will be held Friday, Nov. 18, 2005 at South Cemetery, Middlefield Road, Peru. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by Aldous Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eden Park Nursing Home Activities Fund, 99 Allen St., Rutland, VT 05701.
