Frank R. Marby

Frank R. Marby, 86, of 20 Albany Road died Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 16, at his home. Born in Pittsfield on July 20, 1919, son of Frank and Anna Castellano Mirabile, he graduated in 1938 from Pittsfield High School. He enlisted in the National Guard on Sept. 15, 1936, and served as a private grade VII with Company F of the 206th Battalion until September 14, 1939. On Aug. 28, 1944, he enlisted in the Army and served as a staff sergeant. He fought in the Rhineland and central Europe, and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was discharged Jan. 10, 1946. Mr. Marby joined GE in 1941. He was a quality control inspector for the Naval Ordnance Department, retiring on Aug. 1, 1982. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, and served on the Cemetery Commission for many years. He was a Red Sox fan and enjoyed taking walks. He wife, the former Judith Scott, died April 25, 1988. He leaves a son, Matthew S. Marby of Sheffield; four daughters, Kathy M. Burton of Churchville, N.Y., Carol Sue Baxter of Gloucester, Annemarie Marby of West Stockbridge, and Kate Marby of Sausalito, Calif., six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and his former wife, Margaret Bianco Marby of Pittsfield. He was predeceased by a daughter, Christine Marby DaSilva. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial mass for Frank R. Marby, who died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, with the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, administrator, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours are todayfrom 4 to 8 p.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Marby may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. Mr. Marby was also predeceased by four brothers, Joseph, Steve, Andrew and Jacob Marby, and four sisters, Mary LaCasio, Augustina Smith, Angelina Codella and Jennie Sperlonga.
