Laura B. Whittemore

Laura B. Whittemore, 88, of Devonshire Estates, 329 Pittsfield Road, died Monday at Providence Care Center of Lenox. She lived at Devonshire Estates the past five years. Born in New Chelsea, Newfoundland, on April 29, 1917, daughter of Caleb and Ursula Bailey Button, she attended schools there and in Everett. Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Whittemore was last employed as a secretary for First Church of Christ Congregational, Pittsfield, where she was a member. Before that she worked for a real estate management company in Boston. While living in Alton, N.H., she served on the town Planning Board for 12 years and was a member of the Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening and reading. She and her husband, Peter B. Whittemore Jr., were married Feb. 10, 1940, in Malden. He died Sept. 27, 1996. She leaves a daughter, Mariette J. Moon of Lenox; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Whittemore Martin, who died June 8, 1966. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Laura B. Whittemore, who died Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, will be held at the convenience of the family, with burial to be in Whittemore Point Cemetery in Bridgewater, N.H. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
