George P. "Pete" Mathes Sr.

George P. "Pete" Mathes Sr., 57, of 47 Circular Ave., died Wednesday at home following a brief illness. Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 7, 1948, son of the late George F. and Mary Layden Mathes, he attended Mt. Greylock Regional High School. He was employed at the Crowne Plaza hotel in the food service department, retiring in October due to ill health. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, bowling, gardening, swimming and watching football. He leaves three sons, George P. Mathes Jr., Phillip Mathes and Joshua Mathes, all of Pittsfield; two daughters, Debra Hersko of Schodack, N.Y. and Amy Fosty of Pittsfield; a sister, Rosemarie Polidoro of Pittsfield, and three grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for George P. Mathes Sr., who died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, will be Monday at 1 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, celebrated by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor of Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires, in care of the funeral home, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201. He leaves his three grandchildren, Hailey, Hannah and Heidi Fosty.
