Bruce C. Bard

Bruce C. Bard, 68, of 1095 Mohawk Trail died Sunday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital after a long battle with squamous cell cancer. Born in Adams on Feb. 6, 1937, son of Edgar O. and Anna Voltoline Bard, he attended local schools. He was a longtime member of Company M, 104th Division, of the Massachusetts National Guard. Mr. Bard was employed by Commonwealth Sprague until his retirement in May 2000. He was a member of Adams Lodge of Elks 1335 and enjoyed gardening. He also was a Red Sox fan. He and his wife, the former Brenda Lee Suthers, celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary Aug. 23. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Craig Michael Bard of North Adams and Jeff Bard of Rowley, and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Roman Catholic Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Bruce Bard's life at St. Francis' Church on Thursday at 10. Inurnment will follow in the family lot in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams, in the spring at a time to be announced. In accordance with Mr. Bard's wishes, there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Craig M. Bard Scholarship Fund, the Eileen Barrett Cancer Fund or the Berkshire Oncology/Hematology Fund, all in care of McBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 2-8 Liberty St., Adams, MA 01220, which is in charge of arrangements. He also leaves two grandchildren, Rachel and Max Bard, and a daughter-in-law, Ginger Bard. A brother, Ronald E. Bard, died in 1992, and a sister Irene Banas, died in 1993.
